Difficult People

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.  (1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV)

It’s a joy to be around people who live by this verse.  People who value you, see the best in you, and just love being with you.  What a wonderful, healthy atmosphere!

But, unfortunately, we all know that not everyone is kind and encouraging.  Some are passive aggressive, and others are just outright mean.  These “difficult people” are quick to point out our failures and, no matter how hard we try, we can never be quite “good enough” in their eyes.

For our physical, emotional, and spiritual health, it’s extremely important that we limit our interactions with difficult people, but sometimes we just can’t.  What do we do then?

We have to use our faith.  Faith is believing God, even when God is silent and the difficult people are loud.  In other words, whenever people are telling you that you aren’t (fill in the blank) enough, pull out your shield of faith and quench those fiery darts.

Take what God says about you, cling to it, and make it become real to you on the inside until it becomes a reality in your world.  In Christ:

You are holy and without blame before Him in love (see Ephesians 1:4 & 1 Peter 1:16)
