Mushrooms and Moths
Years ago, I had a closet that was under the stairs in the basement. I guess I didn’t go in there much, but one day I opened the door and saw the whole ceiling was covered in moths. I didn’t have money for an exterminator, and it was before the days of google, so I had no idea how to get rid of them.
I did the only thing I knew how – one by one, I smashed
them with a paper towel. Every day there
would be more, and I kept smashing.
Every day there were fewer and fewer until one day there were no more.
I was reminded of this recently because mushrooms
are popping up all over my yard, and I’m afraid to let the kids out because they
could be poisonous. I did buy some chemicals,
but had to stop using them because my dog likes to roll in them, then she brings
them into the house and onto the rugs where the baby plays.
Just last week I read that dishwashing soap kills
mushrooms because of the sulfate. I’ve
been pouring soap on them, one by one, and the next day they are black and
shriveled.
After months of stressing over mushrooms, I can’t
tell you how happy this make me.
It reminded me of the moths.
And it reminds me of the fig tree that Jesus
cursed.
I get overwhelmed with the lies and curses that I
see popping up in my kids lives. Things
they struggle with. I worry so much for
them.
But the Holy Spirit showed me to look at the curses
like mushrooms. Like moths. Pour the blood of Jesus on them one by
one.
Nobody sees me do this. I speak it in private. Jesus healed and delivered people from a
distance and we can too.
Every time you think of a curse in someone’s life,
pour the blood of Jesus on it. Curse the
curse.
Like the fig tree and the mushrooms, the curses will
also shrivel and die. Like the moths,
keep taking them out one at a time, day after day, until they stop coming back.
In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!"
"Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mark 11:20-24 NIV)
