Casting out demons
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will
drive out demons (Mark 1:17 NIV)
At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and
things in earth, and things under the earth (Philippians 2:10 KJV)
. . . the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17
KJV)
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, "Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name," . . . Behold,
I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:17-19 KJV)
Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4 KJV)
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7 KJV)
As you cast out
demons, these verses are key. Remember:
- Use the Name of Jesus – all demons must bow (be subject, submit) to you in the Name of Jesus
- Use the Word of God (the above verses will do nicely) – demons are spirits, and this is your spiritual sword
- Do not be intimidated by the devil’s power; God’s power within us is so much greater!
- In Luke 10:19, the word “serpents” means “sly cunning, an artful malicious person…” which implies that this is a type of demon that lies, tempts, and entices people to sin. The word “scorpions” means “to pierce, sting,” which implies that this is a type of demon that brings physical harm, like sickness or disease. (Strong 1983) Jesus gave us authority and power over both types.
